WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY

Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession that comprehensively assesses, diagnoses and treats a range of muscular, joint and neural problems to prevent disease and disability through physical means. Physiotherapists are experts in movement and function who work in partnership with their patients, assisting them to overcome movement disorders, which may have been present from birth, acquired through accident or injury, or are the result of ageing or life-changing events. Physiotherapy aims to reduce pain and aid repair of damaged tissues by optimizing the body’s natural healing mechanisms, and can help you to recover from injury, reduce pain and stiffness, and increase mobility. Our goal is to return you to your normal routine as soon as possible, whether that is work or sport. As first contact practitioners, your physiotherapist has a thorough understanding of how the body works gained from many years of rigorous academic study and practical experience. Thus a doctor's referral is not necessary to see a physiotherapist.
